“We don’t use that word here.”
Thanks for checking out another episode of the Jamhole. The audio equipment is still pooping little digital artifacts into the show, and America is commemorating 9/11 with drone towers, meme discourse, and the usual tasteful restraint we’ve all come to expect from the internet.
Episode 931 gets into workplace language rules, paycheck survival math, 9/11 jokes, South Park becoming South America, candy corn fragrance, Saharan dust headed for Florida, another church abuse horror show, diesel prices breaking gas pumps, an Amazon cargo plane coming in way too hot, South Korean potatoes cooking underground, and the comforting thought that maybe climate change wasn’t just us getting old and cranky after all.
Did you see the drone show that recreated the Twin Towers using 2,977 lights, one for each victim?
This inevitably leads to a discussion on when it becomes acceptable to joke about such tragedy. I don’t think we ever did figure out an answer. It’s either all funny or none of it is.
South Park enters the ring next after pulling a Trump-style name change stunt and rebranding itself as South America, inspired by Apple and Google’s patriotic courage. We’re very excited for the new season which starts September 16th.
It’s almost Halloween, and to celebrate the season, Brach’s is releasing a candy corn fragrance with notes of vanilla, sugar, and honey. This is what passes as news on 9/11.
Be safe out there. A massive cloud of Saharan sand and fine particulate matter is heading toward the East Coast, Gulf Coast, Florida, and the Caribbean, carrying haze and breathing problems for people with asthma, COPD, or the deeply unfortunate condition of needing lungs.
Indiana showing up this week with Pastor John B. Lowe II, who publicly framed a decades-old sexual relationship as adultery, then a woman confronted him during the church service and said it began when she was 16 and continued for years. Just pastors doing pastoral things.
Gas Buddy shows up next, or more specifically gas pumps that apparently ran out of digits when California diesel prices got too close to $10.
An Amazon cargo plane comes in hot in Miami. One pilot repeatedly warned that they were going too fast as they approached and touched down, but the plane still went off the runway and killed people in a truck. Here’s the video of it happening on Reddit. If you want a deep dive, the nerds over at r/aviation have you covered.
Potatoes. You know I love them, so this is especially disheartening to me. South Korea’s heat wave reportedly cooked potatoes underground, leaving crops that looked fine above the soil but came up soft and unusable.
